The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) launched the Sub-regional Sustainable Development Strategy for South Asia (SSDS-SA), prepared by Development Alternatives in Bangkok on March 5, 2009

l Tara Livelihood Academy (TLA) organised a 3-day training programme on Participatory GIS for Planning and Decision Making on April 21-23, 2009. The Geomatics Division of DA provided the GIS training on the various modules of GIS and its applications in addressing the environment and sustainable development issues

TARA Livelihood Academic (TLA)

l TARA Livelihood Academy organised a three-day training programme on ‘Participatory Planning And Decision Making’ using Geographic Information System (GIS) on April 21-23, 2009 in New Delhi. The training programme was successfully handled by an expert on GIS and a team from the Innovation Services Branch of Development Alternatives

l The Development Alternatives Group won the Hewlett Packard - HELP award for the year 2009-2010

l TARA Livelihood Academy has signed an agreement with Eureka Forbes Limited for conducting employability skills training programmes for the sales and technical teams in rural areas. A series of training programmes will be conducted at TARAgram Orchha in May 2009

l A team of TARA Livelihood Academy will conduct a study on ‘Situational Analysis and Outlook for the Moradabad Brass Industry’ for the International Labour Organisation in the year 2009- 2010

l In order to provide better solutions at the doorsteps to farmers, the Lifeline India Project will include facilities like soil testing, fertilisers, seeds marketing, etc. A tie-up for marketing bio-fertilisers is on the anvil

l TARA Akshar is all set to roll out in Udaipur region in Rajasthan, in association with Seva Mandir, an NGO. This partnership will make 216 learners literate within a period of six months

Development Alternatives celebrated Earth Day on April 22, 2009 with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Forests at Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi. The occasion was marked by the launch of the Green Generation Youth (GGY) campaign. A Compact Disc of the carbon calculator along with a booklet on how to become a green consumer was released on the occasion. More than 400 school children across Delhi participated in the event
